Hello there! I haven't seen you in a while! I am excited to share with you that earlier this week I finally made it out to newest and cutest bakery in Chicago: Magnolia Bakery.

When I first entered the bakery I instantly felt as though I was in cupcake heaven. The lovely vanilla and chocolate aromas lifted me off of my feet. The homey and cozy feeling that this bakery has to offer brings back the basics of bakery. The place offers up to a 28 seating area where one can take their time to observe all the cute options this vintage-like bakery has to offer. The best part is they donate their leftovers at the end of the day to a local charity.

Can't wait for my second visit! I will definitely be Tweeting about it so be sure to follow me @priyankabvaidya.

Hi There!

So I just finished watching the Golden Globes and if you are a fan of The New Girl (like me, who isn't?!) - next year Zoey definitely deserves to win! Anyways, besides tracking the winners, I like to see which gowns can be easily transformed to a wedding gown. And this year it was a no-brainer: Elle Macpherson. This mermaid styled, pearl colored dress by Zac Posen goes great with any accessory. I love the mix-and-match with her bracelets and purse!

From the looks of this dress, she is just waiting to making it down the aisle one more time! Checking out the gowns during academy award season is a great way to scope out the new trends coming up in bridal wear. So bring on the fabric!

I hope the new year has been treating you wonderfully!! According to the Chinese Zodiac Calendar, the year 2012 is the year of the dragon. So I guess it's no surprise that the color pallet selected by Patone is a zesty fire orange: Tangerine Tango. This eye catcher has been the inspiration of many fashion designers for their 2012 designer line, from Tommy Hilfiger to Elie Tahari.

2012 Predictions - The End of Vintage Weddings

The wedding style and craze that swept 2010 and 2011 were vintage style weddings. Vintage weddings really brought weddings back to the ground with home made favors, decorations, sweets, and even bouquets. This style first peeked out in 2008 and 2009 and the real inspiration behind it was to capture the small, home-style, sweet details of weddings. Many believed the switch to smaller, feel-good weddings was due in part of the recession, with more couples on tighter budgets. With more brides becoming DIYer's, many vintages weddings became that much more popular.

My favorite part of vintage weddings are the pictures. However, that's the not case with many photographers. According to a recent article from the Huffington Post, photographers felt the trend really made it difficult to think outside the box when it came to shooting vintage weddings. They would rather create "art when it doesn't reflect last week's wedding... The couple in the field holding hands two feet apart, back lit by the sun, or the dress and slacks pulled up showing shoes and socks. I think it's important for photographers to find their own vision and capture the unique style of the couple, not the trend of the season. Bottom line: the end of a trend can actually benefit brides and grooms, as it translates to more original thinking on the part of wedding vendors."

So what's the predicted trend of 2012? Formal and sophisticated weddings - thanks to the lavish, royal wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William. I guess I could get used to that too. :)

December is here! I love this time of year. It's so whimsical and romantic. Also, it's the best shopping month of the entire year. Almost every store, catalog, and magazine has their shopping guidelines and lists of must-have gifts for the year. So of course, I decided to make my own top 5 items, that should be on everyone's list. Enjoy!

1. butter London

This line of polish is the perfect touch for everyday shine and sophistication.The brushes are smaller than most nail polish brushes and the finish is less likely to streak. They have a huge variety of colors making the line the hottest one this season. Their biggest seller is "Yummy Mummy" which is creamy tone with a shimmery finish.

2. Made By Girl

Jen Ramos is a founder and creator behind this girly line of home decor and fashion pieces. I am a huge fan of simple and classy works of art that draw attention in any room. She offers a variety of colors and sizes of her famous 'Love" poster. The Love Candy Love is my favorite.

3. Philosophy

Philosophy is a line no one can go wrong with. This year they released their holiday treat, The Care Package. This set includes a facial exfoliating wash, facial cleanser, moisturizer, eye and lip firming cream, and much more! The nice perk of this set is that it's great for all skin types.

4. Michael Kors

I love Kors! I am entirely, totally bias to Michael Kors. How adorable is the Hamilton Wristlet?! This little piece is great for holiday parties with co-workers, friends, and family. It's available in red, cream, black, and white. It maybe little, but it makes one loud statement.

5. Starbucks

Finally, everyone should have their special treat of the season. My favorite, which I believe most of you will agree with me, are Starbucks seasonal drink. Their famous seasonal flavors are Peppermint Mocha, Gingerbread, and the Caramel Brulee.

Hi everyone!!!! Yes - I'm guilty again of falling terribly behind on blogging. This past month has been nothing short of crazy. One month from now my sister is about to walk down the aisle and as the planner and maid of honor, I have been 100% Team Gargi. Right now we are in major crunch time from arranging tables, finalizing the menu(s), selecting last minute songs, and adding the final touches.

One of the final touches that I am looking forward is designing and selecting the Guest Book. Collecting the beautiful memories of your wedding should be just as special as all the time spent planning it. I absolutely love the idea of having your guest's sign a calendar on their birthday block! Your guests will feel so special that you remembered their birthday and you'll never have the embarrassment of the wrong date!

On a final note...

Through out the planning of my sister's wedding I have made so many mental notes to blog about, from the tasting, make up and hair trials, and the occasional "How to Handle Wedding Stress". Unfortunately all of them of just been that - mental notes. Of course I have not left behind my readers (nor will I ever!), but recently I have heard more from new potential clients and brides to update my blog than ever! This rush has been so exciting and I am thrilled to post more about my experience as an independent wedding consultant.

Tulips are absolutely my favorite flower!! And I love parrot tulips. Parrot tulips have petals that have a featured texture with a curled, twisted, or waved shape, similar to that of a parrot's feather. The best part is when bloomed they are very large and come in vibrant colors.

Natalie & Greg

I am so excited to introduce my newest couple, Natalie & Greg. They are my first 2012 fall couple (ah - I can't believe it!). I was so excited when Natalie said she and Greg would like for me to be their wedding planner! I first met Natalie my freshman year of college. We had the craziest English teacher, who had the topic for Religion as his class, but was an Atheist himself. So of course, we never had a dull moment in that class!

So anyways, back to Natalie and Greg. :) They met in 2000 and have been officially together since 2004! After seven wonderful years of dating, Greg got down on one knee last summer on a 3 day trip out to Galena, IL. It was prefect get away to enjoy their time together before the craziness of the wedding planning kicked in!

I recently sat down with them and here are some great things about them that Natalie shared with me:

-Greg plays the snare drum with the Chicago Highlanders Pipes and Drums. When I first learned this about Greg I was like "what, you wear a skirt!?" but now I couldn't imagine my life without the band. We are very close with a lot of the members (how I met Carrie, one of my bridesmaids and her son is our ring boy) and spend our summers having BBQs after parades with them. I still tease Greg about wearing a "skirt" (his kilt) and it is a good laugh that doesn't get old

-Greg's family does a Saturday after Thanksgiving pot luck each year. I love going to it because they are so loud and crazy it reminds me of my own family. It wouldn't be the start of the holidays without it!

-In my family, we have always taken a "cousins" picture when we are all together. Now I am the only one who lives in IL and the other 4 have moved out of state with their families so "cousins" pictures have been hard or incomplete. We are so looking forward to taking a "cousins" picture at the wedding!

-We really enjoy cooking together, sometimes we get in over our head and we wind up starting to cook at like 5pm but dont eat until 8pm! I think our fav dish to make is pastas.

-Greg was a very quiet person and I have always been very loud. We balance each other out...I think that is what people always say about us and something we love about our relationship. I am a bit more tamed and Greg is a bit more wild!

-I have skied all my life. I got Greg into it when we first started dating...he loves it now! We have gone skiing many many times together in MI and WI and can't wait to do a big trip to Utah or CO or Montana.

Invitations with Gargi

Today Gargi & I accomplished a huge project: writing out her invitations! It took us over 7 hours and a taco bell break in between, but they are finally done. The excitement and the realization of her wedding really hit us when the packages (yes - packages and packages of invitation paper) arrived!

When it came to this large task, we listed out the guests and number of guests from each house hold per event, then purchased the invitations and RSVP cards, accordingly. The cards are a traditional, Hindu wedding invitation with the blessing of the Lord Ganesh presented on the front.

It was a wonderful pleasure to be a part of Amy & Mike's big day! I have known their story from the beginning, as high school sweethearts (this gorgeous couple was also prom king & queen!!). We got back in touch about a year ago and I braved up the courage to ask them to be their coordinator. :)
Prior to this season, the only experience I had was shadowing as an intern. I really had no experience working as a coordinator on my own. It's a whole new ball park when you're the person in charge. Luckily, I am the one in a million chance new bee, that got to work with such a lovely couple with an effortlessly prefect day. Their prefect day was due to the assistant of their other great vendors such as their DJ from Toast & Jam and florist from Catherine's Garden.

They had their breathtaking vintage wedding at the Narnia Estate and photographed by Maggie Fortson Photography, who captured their theme, decor, and love.

Wedding Week!!

The venue the couple has selected is the Narnia Estate which is a private 55 acre property in Lemont, IL. A big shout out to the lovely couple for letting me work with them on their big day and help me gain experience as an independent coordinator. I am so excited to be apart of your wedding!!!

Change of Scent

Every four to six months I like to change my perfume. I never like to repeat a scent. I like to come back to a perfume and for it to remind me of a certain period of time, such as summer of last year which was Fantasy by Brittany Spears or sophomore year of college which was Green Apple by DKNY.

This time I went with a classic: Romance. So far I love it. And what's not to love?? It's so light and everlasting.

I grabbed a great deal with an entire Romance set with perfume, spray, lotion, and wash.

Plus it came with a free box of chocolates!!!

Hello Everyone!!

Okay, so I'll admit it. Every event and wedding can have a dark side to it. It's hard not to get caught up in the chaos, with all the attention to details an event demands. Hollywood has sure taken their hits at bridezillas with 27 Dresses, Wedding Crashers, Maid of Honor, Bride Wars, and so on.

The biggest buzz at the blockbuster this weekend is another movie about weddings: Bridesmaids. From the producer of The 40-Year-Old-Virgin and Knocked Up comes this promisingly funny movie about the craziness that your MOH and bridesmaids have to face (sometimes). The critics have approved it, with a whopping 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.

And who said weddings can't be funny??

Random Post: Kate Middleton & Prince Williams

Hi fabulous ones!! So less than a few hours away from the biggest wedding of the century. I have been following the best I can. I try not to pass the opportunity to check out articles or posts about these two glamorous people. The constant updates and media coverage, has made it impossible to miss this. And why would you want to?
In case you still didn't get the memo: it's a pretty big wedding.

I so am excited to see what new trends, patterns, and ideas will filter from their wedding into the events industry! All eyes will be on her dress, the flowers, decor, music, entertainers, and guest list.

The world is ready for out next princess. When the Princess of Wales married Prince Charles, over 750 million people tuned. I am guessing this Royal Wedding wedding will surpass that number with a little help from YouTube, who will be streaming the event live! I have my alarm set!

Kate already has me hooked on her fashion sense. To be honest,that's an understatement.I absolutely love her style, grace, and of course, the hats. I hope this catches back onto main stream fashion soon.

I don't know when hats lost their charm. But I am so excited to see the come back. Who could forget Audrey Hepburn's iconic hats from My Fair Lady?
The hats aren't just a hair accessory. They are statement that needs to be heard, seen, and understood. My favorite are ones are enriched with color. Feathers are a plus, but sequences aren't necessary.

Recently, I fell in love with a local floral vendor in Oak Forest: Catherine's Garden. The owner, Julie, absolutely floored me with her ability to connect with any client and understand their decor vision for the big day. The bottom line: she know's her flowers!

I was first introduced to this wonderful place, by my good friend Sandi, who had Catherine's as her florist for her wedding. Soon her recommendation spread to Amy, a current PPE bride. Both of them were so happy with the place and raved about the service so much that I booked consultations for other two PPE brides, Amanda and Gargi. See how great word of mouth is? :)

During one of the consultations, Julie mention the idea of a collection centerpiece. When it comes to flowers, decor, etc, the lingo can seem over whelming and while it's best to trust the experts with what they are doing, it's also helpful to keep in mind your choices. A collection centerpiece is one of the hottest trends for spring and summer. It literally means a "collection" of small floral, and sometimes non-floral, arrangements that are placed together to add a more full and dynamic look to your centerpiece.

Suggestions: the mini arrangements don't have to be replications of one another. Incorporate different size vases, colors, containers, and floral (or non-floral)

Are you ready to drool Jose Villa's work (like I do)?? The world-renowned, fine art wedding photographer has published a book, called Fine Art Wedding, geared towards bringing light to the modern approach in photography. In his book he shares his ideas and secrets for bringing "a stylized sense of composition, lighting, posing, and design" to your shots, while most importantly enhancing the story they tell. The book is filled with real stores, one of a kind techniques, and work of the brightest stars in the industry. The final chapter goes over how you can apply these techniques to your new born and family portraits.

And yes, he is same photographer who captured Tamera Mowry's engagement shots. How lovely.

Btw - if you're stuck with a photographer who seems to be missing your vision - pass along a copy to them. It will be a great wake up call, filled with fabulous ideas. :).

This donut will available for a short time, from April 24th - April 29th. The creator of the donut is DD's CEO, Nigel Travis. The British-born, who was also raised in Woodford, Essex, is especially excited for the big day. The wedding donut will be a heart shaped shell filled with jelly, coated with vanilla icing, and a squiggle of chocolate. The donut is estimated to be 89 cents, the average price of most donuts at DD.

I always love the start of a new month. It's another way to start fresh in life! And as these months go on, we are that much closer to the outdoor wedding season! Ahhh :). If you haven't noticed - it's been a while and I have A Lot to share, so lets get down to business!

One of the most common questions I hear are regarding save-the-date cards. Personally, I believe s.t.d.c. are essential. It's good to let your guest know, and your fellow brides-to-be, when your big day is. It lets them know to please mark this day on their calendar because it is important to you that they be there.

I would recommend save-the-date cards for all occasions, especially during the summer when there is over lap of graduation parties, Fourth of July gatherings, and weddings. When it comes to weddings, save-the-dates is the stepping stone to your official day; it also should mark the start of your budget.

A great, budget friendly option is ShutterFly. Shutter Fly has over 100 design options to choose from, including uploading your own pictures. Some cards go for 40 cents each, but thats for a bulk purchase for over 200; however, an average price of 60 cents is still not too bad. Each card comes with a matte finish and an envelope.

This site is very popular, but for some reason I have been living under a rock and I just heard of it! A friend of mine used it to create invitations for an event, and I was very impressed with the professional finish they provide at such a great price.

Hello Everyone -

I am going to ignore the date of my last post. It has been quite a while.

On the brighter side, spring is officially here!! If you haven't noticed by now, I have been anticipating this season since Dec 21st. I am so excited for the bright, vibrant colors that spring brings. And now that engagement season is over (November through February, which I had no idea that there was such a thing such as an engagement season. Love happens all year round!), let the wedding planning begin! But first, I would like to officially congratulate Gargi and Nivid on their engagement!!! I hope once they read this they will be inspired to start their own wedding planning blog (hint! hint!).

So, yesterday I had the opportunity to attend Amy and Mike's Bridal Shower and it was so much fun! I ended up chatting with Amy's girlfriends from college and we all decided that Amy will have the cutest wedding. Her vintage style wedding really captures her one of a kind taste. Amy's future mother-in-law did a great job with decorations, centerpieces, and food!

I absolutely loved the peach sangria and my salad. I didn't think it was possible to be obsessed with a salad, but I have been proven wrong. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me so I wasn't able to capture a picture with the bride to be, but take my word for it: she looked absolutely beautiful. I can't believe the wedding is already two months away!

PS - I had so much more in this blog post, but blogspot is acting up and not letting me attach anymore links or pictures. Hopefully, I'll have better luck next time!

Spring-ing Into Color!

Hello Everyone!

Just a few more days before March begins and before you know it - spring will be in full bloom! Hopefully!

And if you are still searching for the prefect spring decor for your event, I highly recommend starting with a theme. A theme can be a simple as a color scheme. Spring is the prefect time of year to incorporate the bright colors and make your event a memorable one. Bright colors not only make your decor pop out more, but they are great for pictures too! The prefect color is Pantone's: Honeysuckle.

I have mentioned Honeysuckle before; it is also the color of 2011. This vibrant color is great as the primary color, that can be well balanced with any shade of white or lavender for a color scheme. As the year (and seasons) go on, it's harder to incorporate bold colors such as this shade of pink; usually during fall events, you might see the honeysuckle as a secondary color to a bronze or silver color scheme.

As for now, here are some great ideas on how to incorporate this one of kind color at your event:

As I mentioned before, the color of year is decided by some top designers who ultimately vote on their favorite color. Basically the colors in the fashion world are predetermined by each country's color council, such as the Color Association of the United States. This idea first started due to the shortage of dye during WW1, so an association was formed to decide the direction of color for fashion, decor, etc. This association still exists today due to economical reasons. Eventually these colors trickle down and through the economy, so each year they are looking for something new and fresh.

Remember Meryl Streep's "Little Lecture" in the Devil Wears Prada (and my FAVORITE scene!!)?

Also, next weekend Lettuce Entertain You is having their 3rd Annual Bridal Fair. Thanks to my good friend Aekta, I got this little update! This year the event is being at one my favorite restaurants: Scoozi! This event will have various tastings of their 20 major Lettuce Entertain restaurants. Great for all events such as baby showers, bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, and morning after brunch. Remember, bridal shows are a great opportunity to seek out last minute vendors for your spring event such as decor, make up, hair, etc., at a great price!

3 Things I am Excited About!

Hello Everyone!

Have I mentioned how much I love my followers?? Because I really do. I love when I get random messages about potential blog post ideas or upcoming things in the event industry. It gets me excited to know that you care as much as I do! So there are few things going on that I am really excited about.

Thing #1 that I am excited about: Google Weddings.

Recently my friend Arman told me about probably the best idea Google has ever had. It's called Google Weddings. This wedding planning tool is designed to help a couple find everything that they need from A-Z. And what better way than the speedy and convenience of Google. This tool helps couples keep everything in one place, from websites, vendors, budgets, pictures, videos, ideas, etc. Their Google Docs Wedding are filled templates designed to plug and chug away. Also, along with blogpost, Google Weddings helps couples share their journey with everyone with electronic save the dates, invitations, and rsvps. I do not know anyone who has used this tool; however, I am interested to see how popular it becomes.

Thing #2 that I am excited about: Anthropology Wedding Dresses

The creative retail stores, famous for their handmade creations of women's accessories and apparel, has expanded the company to the bridal world. They recently launched their bridal gown at BHLDN.com.

Finally, thing #3 that I am excited about: Filens Basement Running of the Brides.

On Friday March 18, 2011 Filene's Basement on State Street and Michigan Avenue is having their semi-annual bridal blowout sale. Each year thousands of brides and their bridal party camp out the night before the sale to ensure their bride gets the gown of her dreams! This twice a year event offers top of line bridal gowns, reduced at over 50%.

Filene's prides themselves in the event, commenting that “virtually every bride who comes here leaves with the wedding gown of her dreams.”

Cupcake Comparison

Hello Everyone!

As you all know I love my sweets and I never pass up an opportunity to talk about (or eat) cupcakes! So over the weekend I took on a difficult task. I ventured out to settle the score between two of Chicago's leading cupcake bakeries: Molly's Cupcakes versus Sprinkle Cupcakes. With Smit's help (and killer parallel parking skills) we were able to wrap the visits in a jiffy! So here were the choices:

Sprinkles Cupcakes:
2 Red Velvet's
1 Black and White
1 Peanut Butter
1 Raspberry Chocolate Chip
1 Vanilla Milk Chocolate

Molly's Cupcakes:

1 Peanut Butter Nutella

1 Double Chocolate

1 Cake Batter

1 Chocolate Raspberry

The comparison would have been easier if both bakery's had similar flavors. The over all experience was a fun, filled sugar high. And I highly recommend it!
When it came down to it, there were significant differences between the two. The atmosphere at Sprinkles Cupcake was fun, with friendly, smiley workers. There are televisions set up outside their doors, with continuous clips of their product on various shows. This entertainment was very much needed; the line for Sprinkles was pretty long. The shop it self is pretty small. There were probably 7 - 10 costumers inside the store at a time. Along with the cramped-ness the chairs were super uncomfortable. Molly's Cupcakes had more of an open and relaxed atmosphere. It was obvious that they have been in Chicago longer (no tourists stopped in the middle of the road to take pictures of the bakery). The line wasn't as long and luckily they have plenty of room inside the shop. They had table seatings with games and cute swings set along the "bar". Unfortunately, this place was harder to find; we almost walked right past it. Also they didn't have as many cupcakes flavors. By the time we got there they were completely out of red velvet! So that made selection a little difficult.

We were there to compare cupcakes so I guess most of the above can be over looked. Personally, I enjoyed Sprinkles Cupcakes the most. Both Molly's Cupcakes and Sprinkles Cupcakes had moist yummy cupcakes, but Sprinkles got the frosting just right: not too sweet, not too bland, and not too hard.

If anyone disagrees, I would love to go on another cupcake comparison run with you!

Fashion Filled Friday

This past year, I went to India twice. Both trips helped me understand more about myself and what I wanted to do. It was after my first trip in March that I decided I wanted to be an event coordinator. And my second trip in December was exactly what I needed to regroup my focus on PPE.
Wedding season was in full blast during my second trip; nights were filled with loud barats and jaans! It was just plain ol fun! This opportunity really gave me the chance to see the change in traditions, way of living, and of course - the fashion! One of the biggest trends for Indian bridal wear is mix and match. The combination of mix and matching different colors and prints really brings focus to the details on each fabric.
Ritu Kumar is one the leading fashion designers in India. Most say that '[she] is synonym of the Indian fashion industry." Her emphasis on handmade designs over machine made, to blend traditional and modernity, produces the finest work of art. She is known to create fashion that "move[s] across borders", whether is be geographical or cultural.
Recently her show was held at Taj Land's End, Mumbai hosted by the Taj Hotel and Palace. Here is the latest from her line.

The biggest trend for 2011 brides are headbands. Jennifer Behr recently released their 2011 Bridal Line. The hair accessories has a huge celebrity fan base and have been spotted everywhere in Vogue and InStyle. Also this collection helped launch Blair's signature of headbands.

A Pick-Me-UP

Hello Everyone!

Wow - Chicago is really rubbing it in that it's January. Looking out the window does set a blah mood. The good news is that there are only 6 more days of it; the bad news is that February probably won't be any different! The majority of this past month I have been cooped inside; not that I am complaining, but it's been a huge contribution to PPE's lag. So I want to share some easy pick me ups that I think each of you should try!

1. Drink a cold glass of water!
2. Crank some music - I am talking blaring some of your favorite songs. This can encourage you to get out of your seat and get moving
3. Drink cold soda - personally I would go with drinking more H20; however, a nice cold can of diet cherry Pepsi has a great zing to it!
4. Brush your teeth/use month wash - there is a reason Listerine adds the "ahhh" factor at the end of each of their commercials. The intense rinses really wakes up your senses and can add the kick in the late afternoon you've been looking for!
5. Do Less - if you are feeling guilty about your blah mood, the last thing you should do is make up a hectic to-do list. Instead just chill out or get the odds & ends done, like replying phone calls, emails, etc.

Hello Everyone!

I am excited to share one of the hottest new venues in Chicago: Mastro's Restaurant. This high end steakhouse has received raved reviews from their LA critics as one of the stylish hang outs for celebrities and locals and made their way to our town! This venue can seat up to 125 guests and is available for an private buyout for up to 500 seated guests.

Why so popular? Their nightly Piano Bar Lounge, including live entertainment. And their elegant, wall to wall wine display.

So there is another spot that I am so excited about: Sprinkles! Okay - so maybe I am like 6 months behind on this one, but it's so worth it! If you haven't noticed by now I love cupcakes! Who doesn't? This famous California based shop started off as a husband and wife team. Some of their famous flavors include ginger lemon, vegan red velvet, and chai latte. They have been featured all over television on shows like Oprah, Martha Stewart, Today Show, and Entourage! Their featured Cupcake Towers and Favor Boxes are great for all occasions!!

Even Boozer can't resist. :)

Finally, if you are a bride who is looking for more of an edgy and modern touch to your wedding make sure to check out the Indie Wed this weekend. This wedding show is geared toward the DIY brides with the newest and most affordable trends and ideas. One of the vendors there is Studio AG, a company I have personally worked with and would highly recommend!

PS - I believe the official seasonal lag is over! At least I hope so :). I am ready to get back to the coordinating and what I enjoy the most! First I would like to say that I am very excited for 2011 year! A Cute and Unique Wedding Proposal

The people of Cincinnati got a little look into lives of Greg and Dana and their engagement! Thanks to Groupon, Dana got the proposal of her dreams! On Wednesday January 5, 2011 Dana, who like the most of us, checked her local Groupon Deal of the Day and instead got the deal of a lifetime!

Greg contacted Groupon with his unique wedding proposal idea and they took care of the rest. The details of "deal" were a sweet message from Greg (and it was available the whole day!). Groupon advertised the proposal at $1 of martial blissed, originally valued at $999,999. Dana saw the deal and yes she did "Buy" it (which was of course - was not charged :) ).

She along with a few others caught the Deal before it ended and received a Proof of Purchase Page for an "unofficial obligation to marry Greg". :)

I hope you all had a fabulous new years! I am so ready for 2011!! I love the idea of a clean slate, some self reflection, and resolutions. My resolution for the new year for PPE is to reach out to more brides with different tastes and styles and also to think outside of the box. I have been solo in this industry for about six months now and I am learning something new everyday. I want to incorporate the all this knowledge in all the events and weddings that I am a part of!

With that said, this is the most important and hectic time of year for many brides. As spring and summer 2011 weddings approach us (it will come faster than we think!), this is the time for brides to lock down on invitations, bands, DJs, transportation, photographer, and of course - coordinators!

As you are researching your vendors, do join the online programs, like from theKnot. They have great tools to help filter vendors in your area and you budget. PPE recently joined theKnot and I must say from coordinators perspective they really help speed up the research process so that the real communication can begin!

Finally, do attend a Bridal Expo. There are quiet a few coming up this month!

More than just a "Boyfriend"

So you've been with the man of your dreams, he knows you better than you know yourself, and he is your soul mate. You both know that one day you two will be married and live happily ever after! So is he really just your boyfriend? Boyfriend - the same title given to the boy in the seventh grade that was too shy to talk and your "relationship" was over after one week. Yeah - I didn't think so!

I understand that the term boyfriend can sound a little juvenile. Your soul mate is so much more than that, but you two aren't engaged yet - so that means he is not really your fiancée.

This is an issue many women have thought about and Glamour Wedding came up with a solution! They came up with a few fun terms you can use for your "in between" stages.

- ovion : this is the Portuguese word noivo spelled backward (sound a little French to me hehe).

- almance: this comes from almost & fiancée

- fuband: combination of future & husband

- clouse: this stands for close to spouse

Okay - so maybe these terms aren't the real solution but they may catch on! Also according to GW, in Portuguese, noivo is used to describe serious boyfriend - which sounds good to me!

Pave Style Floral Decor

I love having flowers around. They instantly light up any room! Having floral as part of your decor is a must this holiday season! My favorite way to keep flowers is pave style. This technique is super easy.

I love pave style flowers because it has a classy, clean look. Pave style floral is one of the most common centerpieces at all events. I picked up the cylinder from Hobby Lobby (for about $3) and each cylinder can have the look with 6-7 roses (so two centerpieces with only one dozen roses!).

When cutting the flowers, it's important to remember not to cut them short right away. Hold the flowers up to the vase and allow yourself an additional 1/2 inch for adjustments. Also you can add a fuller look by sticking in leaves or carnations. Personally I never add the flower chemical "food" to the vases - instead I change the water daily and make sure that it's room temperature.

2011: Honeysuckle

It's official! The 2011 color of the year is: Honeysuckle. Pantone released their annual choice of colors to look out for and 18-2120 Honeysuckle topped the list. This warm shade of pink is great for all seasons (bridesmaids dresses, gift bags, flowers, decor, etc). It's calming and soothing while it "elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage, and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of the everyday life."

Each year Pantone surveys New York fashion designers for their line of "directional colors"; designers such as Betsey Johnson, Lela Rose, Tommy Hilfiger, and Yoana Baraschi. Other colors topping off the list are coral rose, peapod, beeswax, and silver peony.

Keep your eyes open for shades to rock design season in 2011.

The Swan Look

Oops - it's been almost a month since my last entry.

1. I just returned from my trip to India where a spent a few weeks wedding shopping. We were on a major time restraint and we had a lot to accomplish so prioritizing is key! The biggest lesson learned: always always purchase your event attire first. Shopping for an event can be overwhelming with all the different elements (attire, invitations, gifts, etc); however, remember that alterations takes time!

2. It's the holiday season! I have noticed year after year that there are products available exclusively this time of year so I always try to take advantage and stock up on them, especially makeup essentials. Make sure to add these to your wish list!!

I love wedding registry(s)!! I find the process exciting. It's nice to see couples have fun and use that opportunity to see what they want or need for their new home! Nowadays wedding registry's go beyond just Crate n Barrel; you can register with Borders, iTunes, and bonds!

There is a service through myregistry.com which allows you to register for cash gift cards in a "tasteful way"! These cash gift cards can be used toward the honeymoon, home payments, and other future funds. I think my favorite registry is Amazon.com. This registry opens up all the choices, from cell phones, decor, books, music, furniture, and other essentials. It's super convenient and at affordable prices.

When I was taking my certification class for bridal consulting, I read that including your bridal registry in your invitation is not proper wedding etiquette; however I feel that rule is very much outdated! In fact, I encourage brides to include their registry(s) in their invitation. As a guest, it's much more convenient! Also, it may be more financial accommodating for guests to choose an item from the list. It's important that the wedding registry is done before the invitations are sent out and to register at more than one place.

On a side note: the other day I was at Wal-Mart and I understand the stigma that comes with shopping at Wal-Mart. Than I realized that I have never seen a Wal-Mart wedding registry. Their online registry virtually has everything (very similar to Amazon's), so then why do couple write them off? I would like to hear if you would ever have your registry through Wal-Mart?

South Asian Bridal Expo

So over the weekend I went to my second bridal expo. I enjoy attending bridal expos; it's fun to see all the decor, different ideas, and sneak peak at up coming trends. And of course my favorite part is the fashion show. The bridal show was geared toward south Asian brides and the fashion show featured dresses from Sahil clothing line (which was phenomenal!). The gorgeous dresses got me pumped for the 2011 south Asian bridal scene.

So what is a bridal show? It's an expo at major commerical locations such as hotels, large venues, or convention centers. The costs for entry are minimal and usually bridal magazines, such as the Knot or Brides, will have free admission cards.

Why is it worth it? Because it really helps you wrap your mind around the major elements for your big day. Also vendors are there for you and your questions; even if you walk out without signing anyone, at least you know something more of what you want and don't want. Many vendors do offer discounted rates for their service exclusively to attendees of the show. Finally, it can be fun! There are always give away, raffles, and sampling!

I really encourage all brides and grooms to attend a bridal show, especially multiple ones with different ideas. It's always refreshing to look for ideas outside of your comfort zone and make your wedding that much more special.

Take Care of Your Nails

Today was a very pleasant day in Chicago; a prefect day with a cool breeze and the sun shinning, but as the days get shorter and colder the harsh reality of a cold Chicago winter is just around the corner. It's important to remember during this time of year to hydrate and moisturize your skin. I am all stocked up on the obvious like chap stick and hand cream, but don't skip on the details, like your nails.

Nails are sensitive to breaking and external damage. When wearing a dark shade during winter always remember to apply a base coat to protect against yellow spotting and chipping. When getting your nails done don't let them soak your nails because the nail expands when it absorbs water and contracts when drying and if this is repeated too many times then the nails becomes weaker. Instead suggest hydrating your cuticles in nail oil (available at all nail salons). Also when using a nail polish remover, make sure to use one that is non-drying and go for a chemical free one (soy nail polish removers are an up and coming product that leave the nail stronger).

I highly recommend using Barielle Nail Strengthening cream. This cream helps prevent splits, peels, and breaks. This product is great for any winter bride and should be applied daily 4-6 weeks before the wedding.

Winter Wedding Dresses with Color!

Wimzical winter-land weddings are classic. When designing a winter wedding, think of the elegant old look of Hollywood and set the scene with modern jewelry/bling to add the ice factor. A winter wedding is prefect in a cabin or a venue with a fireplace to add the intimate, warm feeling!

A magical winter wedding in a sea of white snow should be topped off with a colored bridal gown. The trend for the non-white gowns are growing rapidly and have really modernized from the prom-dress-look-a-likes.

You're Invited!

The invitation is the most important element to convey the theme, tone, and atmosphere to your guests. You don’t want to send out an understatement of an invitation when your event is glamorous. Also there is a certain etiquette that should be followed when wording your invitation. For example, “request the honour (not honor) of your presence” or “two o’clock in the afternoon (not 2:00pm)”, “five o’clock in the evening (not 5pm)” and ten o’clock in the morning (not 10am).

When invitations are sent from both sides, the brides’ parents should be listed first; however, if there is a huge financial difference than a switch of order should be considered. Also if one set of parents are paying for the reception than the invitation for the ceremony and reception should be printed separately. Helllo everyone! Once again – sorry for my slump! Things started really picking up at the studio, but now it finally seems like I will have a sane schedule J.

I am all about personalizing. Every wedding is unique and each step should have your personal touch to it; that’s why I love PictureItPostage. This online personalize postage company makes it easy now for you to transform your images to postages. With its user friendly guide it allows you to edit, crop, or adjust any of your pictures, graphic, or logo. They also provide free online postage design software.

Postages come in horizontal and vertical cuts, which is great for all sizes (postcards, standard letters, large envelopes, etc). You can use your engagement shots for the invites and wedding portraits for the Thank You’s.

Another fun idea (inspired by one of my couples) is not hiring a DJ for your wedding, but compiling a list of songs that will be played throughout the wedding, cocktail hour, and reception. This idea does involve some work, like timing, bringing in speakers, outlets, and batteries; however, it’s totally worth it because guests can really see (or hear) your personality, on your big day! Why You Shouldn’t Trash the Dress…

The latest trend (and personally one of my least favorite) is trashing the dress. The trend is basically “trashing” your dress during your photoshoot, after the ceremony and then change into another dress, for the reception. More and more brides are doing this because they think the dress has fulfilled its’ purpose. However, here’s a great reason not to “trash your dress”: Brides Against Breast Cancer.

Brides Against Breast Cancer is the largest fundraising division of Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation, which is dedicated to granting wishes to stage IV breast cancer patients. BABC have bridal shows all over the nation, to give brides the opportunity to purchase the dress of their dreams. These dresses are marked a remarkable 25 – 50% market value and all proceeds go towards the non-profit organization.

They are always looking for gowns, slips, and veils dating from 2005 to present. These items are then sold at one of their 32 annual shows and the dresses at the show range from $99- $800. Brides Against Breast Cancer has raised over $4 million with help from various corporations.

The newest line from Alfred Angelo is made for a princess. Literally! Every bride is a princess on her big day and now with their newest collaboration with Disney, it’s possible. Disney asked them to create their new bridal collection which is set to debut this month in Chicago (available in 2011). All the gowns are inspired by their 7 leading ladies: Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Snow White, and Tiana. The best part is the dresses range from $599-$1299.

Hey Men – Stand Up

Literally! Stand up straight when you pick out your suit. Of course the tailor is going to remind you during the fitting, but also practice the good posture. Why? Because your build matters and your suit should reflect that. Here are some pointers for when it comes to picking out a suite.

There are few things you should keep in mind when you decide on your suit. First, there is the theme of the wedding which really determines how formal of a suit you’ll need. For instance for a beach wedding, your best bet is to wear khaki’s and a white collar shirt and skip the whole suit thing. Second, there is the fabric. This ties back into the theme, like whether you need to lean towards a shiny material or linen. Also, just because you got you choose your suit in March, doesn’t mean you’ll need a wool suit for a June wedding. And finally, there is the style: you want to stand out on your day, even if that means you feel a little flamboyant! Also, try to think outside the box and go with a gray or brown suit, but I would stay away from hot pink ones!

So what’s the difference between a wedding suit and a tuxedo? Tuxedo’s have a certain embellishment, like satin covered lapels or buttons, that really distinguishes them for special events. However, a wedding suit is more versatile; you could wear it to multiple events, especially if it’s a three piece, like just the vest with a collar shirt. You could probably wear your suit for big days at the office too.

Also, like most of the decisions made for your big day, make sure to stop in for a consultation. Men do have more time and less stress with their attire, but it’s best to start shopping about 5-4 months before the big day. Here are some ideas for suits, depending on your build. "Night at the Museum"

One my favorite venues for a private party or a reception is at a museum. Museums are actually relatively inexpensive. The Museum of Science and Industry has the one of the best deals in town. How it works is one rents their Rotunda room, which is on the second level, in the middle of the museum. This is location is great because sound travels well and there is plenty of room to move around. Plus the museum closes its' doors to the public, which allows the guests to visit the cool exhibits (btw- this includes the bigger exhibits like their current ones: Science Storms & The Great Train Story).

For most museums, the rate is a flat rental room rate, regardless of the number of guests. The catering however, which most places have indirect “in-house” catering where they work with only certain carters, is charged per person. Another classy place is the Chicago History Museum. They have the adorable I DO! exhibit; prefect for your big day!

Michael Kors is my favorite designer out there. This week during fashion week he was honored with the lifetime achievement award as the youngest recipient. I love his work because he caters to multiple audiences. On the higher end, his line reaches well into $3,000 - $4,000, but with his recent MICHAEL line launched in 2004, he shifted his dynamic to the middle class. His products are available in five department stores, which the most out of all the top notch fashion designers.

Say hello to my first couple: Amy and Mike. They are absolutely adorable. I have known them for years and it’s been a thrill to be a part of their big day. They choose the Narnia Estates as their venue. This place is beautiful for an outdoor May wedding. They choose pretty pale pink and light orange as their colors. The details are falling into place and I am so excited to work with them!!!!

Quick Tip:

When it comes to your wedding dress, alternations are important, but also try on your dress and walk around in it (besides in the bridal store). The best is it to do it after you’ve showered and spend about 30-45mins walking around the house, up and down the stairs, handling your veil, and train, with the heals you plan on wearing. The last you thing you want on your day is to have everyone step on it and rip it.

I am a Glamour magazine fan – well actually a junkie. I look forward to it every single month. Recently they released their annual Glamour Awards for 30 favorite beauty products. The first few are my personal favorites.

Also these products are great to stuff in your bridesmaid’s gift bags. There is no better way to reward them for all of their hard work, support, and time putting up with you. :)

My sister got me hooked on Mac Lipgloss and I recommend this product to everyone. It’s clean, long lasting, and you can never go wrong with Mac.

Japanese Cherry Blossom is the best scent (next to sweet pea) Bath & Body Works has introduced.

Once again my sister got me on this one! I recommend Clinique’s All About Eyes cream. It really helps get rid of dark circles around the eyes along with puffiness. This cream is actually great for everyone – so yes, I do recommend this product to all the men.

If you have never worn false eye lashes before, your wedding day isn’t the day to start. Instead, go with what you know. Maybelline mascara is prefect – they add the pizzazz to any set of lashes.

Finally, this is not part of the list, but the Christian Dior Purifying Foaming Cleanser is worth the splurge ($32 at Sephora). It’s a great makeup remover and really works with all skin types.

My favorite gemstone is the pearl. All gemstones are timeless, but there’s something about the finish of a pearl that makes it so classic. I love heading out the door in jeans, plan tee, and a pair pearl earrings – I instantly feel so “put together”!

This blog slump has been my worst one. The good news is things are starting to really pick up for PPE. The launch will be soon and it’s very exciting!!! This whole summer has been eventful for me (no pun intended ;)), but I am very much looking forward to the next few months.

I absolutely love the fall season. What better color scheme for a wedding, than the natural color palette provided by Mother Nature. Fall is the perfect opportunity to incorporate the bold reds and oranges or to really work the metallics such as gold, copper, and bronze.

Even though the sidewalks and the streets are filled with leaves, that doesn’t mean your wedding has to be. Many florists still have seasonal summer flowers available in the fall. Also, adding berries, tea leaves, or bear grass to any boutique adds the perfect fall touch. I personally love this boutique.

When choosing such strong colors, be sure to find the balance. Let the design elements such as centerpieces, flowers, lighting, chairs, plates, etc add the color and have soft cream linens to balance out; this way your wedding is not cluttered.

Many couples are reluctant at first to have a fall wedding. The fear of Halloween themed wedding can be daunting, but once you have the right elements for the big day, fall season is prefect to add the pizzazz to your big day!

I cannot get enough of this website. www.pingg.com is the next generation of evites. They have taken the basic concept of evite’s and made them “cool”. Seriously, they have! Not only are they the first company that I have seen use “cool”, “awesome”, and “Cheech and Chong” in their vision statement, but their evites provide the fine balance for sophisticated parties to corporate events!

Their software allows you to customize your invite to the max! You can send your evite via text, email, facebook, etc. Additional adjustments can also be made, by either changing the alignment, font, or cropping images. Also, they literally have a million designs to choose from or you can upload your own image and still benefit a great deal from their software. Other features include the option to organize email lists, manage who has and hasn’t seen the evite, and very easy to use for you and your guests!

The best part of Pingg is that they embrace different designs and designers. They encourage individuals to submit evite designs or ideas, as well as let the consumer “meet the designer” of their invite.

Finally, it’s free! “People need people”, is something the company the honors so there are no gimmicks!!

ChicagoStyle Magazine Launch Party

Earlier this month I had the great opportunity to attend the ChicagoStyle Wedding Magazine Launch Party at Sax Chicago! The new September/October 2010 ChicagoStyle Wedding Magazine was revealed and we were the first to see it!

I am a huge fan of the magazine, which recently celebrated their twenty year anniversary. I would recommend the magazine because they are especially catered to the Chicago land area. They have listings for all sorts of vendors and venues, along with advice on how to celebrate your event in Chicago. My favorite are the stories shared by Chicagoland couples!!

The September/October photoshoot took place at the Macy’s on State Street. Check out the pictures from the event!

The indoor seated area was beautifully decorated with lounge furniture. Me with the creative director of M.B. Classics Events and some of the other girls!

It’s the best way to keep everyone up to date on the happenings of your big day. Also there is wedsite.com, ewedding.com, and weddingchannl.com. Each offers their own packages with premiums, trial, or free altogether! Finally there is blogging, which I of course, totally recommend. It’s simple and convenient.

Also make sure to include follow ups once your event is over, like links to your photographer’s website. Usually photographers allow you to create an online profile with username/pw to share your pictures with everyone.

Henna Inspired

Henna (Mehndi) originated in ancient India. The purpose is to adorn a woman’s hands for her wedding. The henna, which is a paste (henna powder mixed with water, lemon juice, yogurt, etc) in a cone, is applied to the hands of the bride the night before her wedding. Once the paste has completely dried, it is removed.

As time went on, more and more women had henna applied for any joyous occasions, like baby showers, birthdays, and any ceremonial processions. The intricate henna designs of flowers, spirals, and swirls have created their own name in art design.

Nowadays henna inspired art can be spotted in most décors, from pillows to dishware. Most invitations and cake have incorporated these ideas to add the chic and elegant look to any event.

Fun Floral Ideas!

Hiring a florist can be pricey, especially with set up/break down fees, rental of vases, and use of equipment. Many do decide not to hire one and set up their own floral arrangement, but that is a huge risk.

Florists should never be skipped all together. Instead look for one who is willing to work with you. It’s important to hire a florist because 1.) picking flowers from a home garden is tacky and 2.) they are the experts. They know which flower should be used under certain conditions, as well as maintenance. If you are set on DIY floral, then make sure the actual flowers come from a professional.

The venue sets the atmosphere for all events. Before you choose a venue, it’s best to know your budget as well as the number of guest attending. The best place to start is to schedule a walkthrough with the venue(s) in mind. It’s important to have the event coordinator present during the visit. Even though most of the obvious information is online, it’s best not to rely just on the company’s website.

A walkthrough usually entails undecorated ballroom or event room with the in-house linens, tables, and chairs. An in-house item basically means what the venue can provide without any additional charges. Usually venues have a list of vendors that they work with for events, including rentals, florists, lighting, and catering, which all can be attained for a discounted value.
